What Are Veneers?

Veneers are custom-fitted shells, made from porcelain and bonded to the front of your teeth, giving them a straight and polished look. Cosmetic dentistry uses veneers to cover gaps, stains, chips, and crooked teeth. They are a rather conservative treatment in cosmetic dentistry that is not highly invasive and does not require you to experience much discomfort or pain. Getting dental veneers usually takes three or four visits at Hawksburn Village Dental. On your initial visit, our experienced dentist Dr. Pohl will talk with you about any concerns you might have about the process and what you want to achieve with veneers. After this consultation, we’ll take a series of X-rays and impressions that we need for planning the treatment and preparing your veneers.

On your second visit, we will complete most of the preparation work. We remove about ½ millimetre of tooth enamel and create new impressions that we’ll use to form your veneers. Dr. Pohl will place temporary veneers on your teeth for you to wear for two weeks, while the lab finishes making your custom permanent veneers.

On your third visit, we will finish preparing your teeth for the veneers, including cleaning, polishing, and etching. We’ll then apply the new veneers to your teeth and treat them with a special light that activates the cement and hardens the bond between your teeth and the veneers.

You might need to make one final visit to Hawksburn Village Dental after you’ve enjoyed the veneers for a few weeks. Dr. Pohl will want to monitor their placement and see how your gums are responding to them and ensure you are happy with your smile.
